A
museum within a museum.
This project was part of a competition
held by the City of Reims in France. The city’s old
market, a 40-meter-tall concrete-and-steel arch building originally
built in the 1940’s and on the city’s historic
preservation register, was in bad condition. Even after a
major restoration of the building’s huge concrete hall,
it still would have been very difficult and expensive to then
preserve the art works inside. My solution sidestepped the
problem by creating a museum within the museum. Different
sized boxes, each isolated and with its own air-conditioning
system, house various collections. The boxes are then connected
by pathways and footbridges. |
